The Department Planning and Statistics  Department was one of the oldest departments serving for the collection, compilation, tabulation and publication of the socio economic data related to the state of Karnataka. It conducts several varieties of census as part of national and state planning process. The decision making agencies in the government utilize the services provided by this department.
The  Department is headed by a Principal  Secretary to government assisted by two officers of the level of Joint Secretary and nine directors of functional divisions besides other officers and staff. The department has  the following 3 wings.
